Evie read quickly through the news story. "Yes, the ministry is lacking a bit, isn't it?" She rather hoped that fact wouldn't change. She pushed the paper back to him when she had finished and looked up at him. "But this muggle only saw the one wizard. Everyone's so quick to jump to the Death Eater conclusion."

"He was named as a Death Eater by that Lucius Malfoy. And while they are rather short-sited and close-minded, the Death Eaters are not known for random, isolated attacks. There's no way he was alone." He grabbed the paper and stared at the story. Seeing the librarian pass by, he took his feet off the table and sat upright.

Evie saw Leonardo look at the librarian and laughed. "Afraid of the librarian? What's she going to do if she catches you with your feet on the table?" She laughed again and switched chairs so that she was directly in front of Leonardo. "Maybe she'll hang you by your ankles in the dungeons."

"Oh yes" Leonardo chuckled, "that does seem the appropriate response to feet on the table." He scooted his chair in so that he was closer to Evelyn. "I am a prefect, and to get in trouble for something as minor as that would be ridiculous. If I'm going down for something, its got to be big." He was joking of course. Leonardo prided himself on abiding by the rules.

She leaned forward onto the table and rested her chin in her hands. "Yes, I can see it now. Your mum marching up to the school and demanding to know why you've been expelled. And Headmistress McGonagall has to explain that your big rule breaking phase has led to tardiness and keeping a messy bed."

"Well I don't think that will be happening anytime soon. My mum's not likely to make it here without remembering some other engagement she's got. Though the messy bed might become a problem at home too, if not righted instantly."

"Is your mum busy a lot?" Evie's mum had always had more important things to do than look after her. She had spent all of her childhood raised by her grandfather, even before her parents' were sent to Azkaban. She felt that they may really be able to connect on something, finally.

Leonardo chuckled and brushed some of Evelyn's hair behind her ear. "Not really." His parents were both muggles, and what with the muggle repelent spells on the castle, it wasn't very likely either of his parents would be visiting him at school anytime soon.

Evie wondered what he had meant by his prior comment about his mum, but didn't say anything. His touch felt good and she didn't want to interrupt the moment. She just closed her eyes and smiled. She was now kicking herself for not taking him up on his previous request for another try at their date.

Leonardo let his hand trail down her cheek gently before pulling it away. He looked at her, she looked so peaceful it was hard at this moment to imagine her as a "spoiled princess" as he had called her before. It was strange, how she could be one person at one time, and someone completely different the next. Leonardo had a feeling it all had to do with Harvey.

Her face suddenly felt cold without his touch. Evie opened her eyes and watched as the gears ticked away in Leonardo's head. "What are you thinking about?"

"You" he said truthfully. "I don't get you." He leaned back in his chair, folded his hands together, and studied her. "I want to apologize for the other day, when I was short with you. I shouldn't have said those things and I'm sorry." His face showed true remorse for his words earlier. He knew he had been out of line and hated himself for it.

He had been out of line and in Evie's mind she'd done nothing to deserve being spoken to in such a way. "Well...." She shrugged it off, not wanting to talk about it. "Don't let it happen again." She was half joking, half serious. The next time he spoke to her like that she wouldn't let him just walk away. But she hoped it wouldn't come to that.
"What have you been up to since we last talked?"

"Not much of anything really. Laying low, in case you were still mad at me." He was joking of course, she was nothing to be scared of. "I've been getting ready for classes. I hate to admit it, but I'm rather glad they've begun. I was getting quite bored without them."

Evie rolled her eyes at the mention of lessons. There were better ways to waste time, besides, she already knew enough to get her by. And she could easily pick up whatever else she needed to know from her friends. "I'm not nearly bored enough here to want to go to classes. It's just something I have to do. But at least this is my last year. You still have another year left, don't you?"
